Work Focus and Achievements

Since its establishment in 2001, JPS Inc. has worked in conjunction with its broad range of clients to help develop policy, legislative and communications strategies on pending health reform policies.  These efforts have contributed to a broad range of initiatives that constrain cost growth; assure access to affordable, quality health care; and improve accountability, efficiency, and overall value within health systems.

More specifically, services have been provided to develop policy and a successful legislative strategy to pass and enact the $20 billion state fiscal relief package that provided critical funding to ensure that states could avoid deep cuts in coverage, benefits, and provider and plan payments. Additionally, JPS, Inc. provided strategic guidance and advocacy services for clients to secure key provisions in the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) to: 1) Remove barriers to generic competition, 2) Ensure retention of retiree health coverage; and 3) Strengthen low-income beneficiary out-of-pocket protections.  Ongoing work has been dedicated to ensure effective implementation of relevant MMA and Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) provisions, and to advocate for legislative modifications in areas where the laws or its implementation falls short.

Most recently, JPS, Inc. was contracted to coordinate the Global Health Working Group at the 2006 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), former President Clinton’s annual meeting of 1,000 foreign leaders, CEOs, NGO heads, philanthropists, and religious and media figures.  As Working Group Chair, Chris Jennings was responsible for developing the Global Health track’s content agenda, recruiting speakers (including former President Jimmy Carter, Dr. Paul Farmer, and Lance Armstrong), and negotiating specific corporate and NGO health commitments from participating organizations.  To date, the Global Health track has generated more than 65 new commitments – in numerous disease areas and from every region of the world – valued at approximately $1 billion.
